An interim executive is an experienced executive brought in temporarily to fill a leadership role, typically working full-time for a defined period of 3-12 months. Sometimes called acting executive or transitional executive. The model is used during organizational transitions including unexpected executive departures, periods while a permanent hire is being recruited, turnaround situations requiring specialized turnaround expertise, or during M&A integration when interim leadership maintains continuity.
