Anxiety is costing you the job, not your hustle

I hear you — you have the drive, but anxiety keeps pulling the rug. That’s not a “you” problem, it’s a nervous system problem.

*3 shifts to try:*

1. *Name it early*: On day 1, tell yourself “My brain will scan for threats here.” Anxiety feels less powerful when it’s labeled, not hidden.
2. *90-second reset*: When panic spikes, use physiology over pep talks. Cold water on wrists, 4-7-8 breathing, or 10 squats. It drops cortisol faster than “calm down.”
3. *One job, one task*: Anxiety grows when you try to “be perfect at everything.” Each day, pick just 1 task to do well. Ask: “What’s the next smallest step?”

*Truth*: You don’t need zero anxiety to keep a job. You need 60-second tools to regulate it. Hustle got you hired. Regulation keeps you there.

If this cycle repeats, a therapist can help retrain the anxiety response. You’re not broken — your system just needs new reps.

I hear you. 14 years together and now silence + questions — that’s disorienting. First, please know this: not understanding “what happened” right now doesn’t mean you were blind for 14 years.

When someone leaves, they often rewrite the story to justify the exit. The version you get in week 2 is rarely the full story. Clarity usually comes in layers, 6-12 months later, not this week. So give yourself permission to breathe before you analyze.

Right now, separate 3 questions:
1. *What happened to us?* → That needs time. Maybe therapy later.
2. *What’s wrong with me?* → Her leaving doesn’t erase 14 years of you showing up. You had strengths too.
3. *What happens to me now?* → This is the only one you can touch today.

My only request for the next 30 days: When the “what happened” spiral hits, set a 90-second timer. Feel it. Then do 1 physical thing — cold water, walk, 10 pushups. Rumination is a loop. Action breaks it.

You built 14 years of life with her. You’re allowed to take 14 weeks just to breathe before you try to understand it.

I’m here if you want to talk through “what happens to me now” step by step.
